How I think it should have been handled

To be clear this isn’t me against Kabam it’s just how I would’ve have handled it and in the end this is Kabam’s game and they can do whatever they want

I think that players should have not been banned FROM THE GAME they should be banned from AW AQ and Arena as that is where they can cheat and get good rewards off of it but they should be allowed to do story content and log in to the game as well as help with Arena and Energy request. Like this anyone who spent money on daily cards and other things will still be able to claim their rewards. And also like this there is no advantage to the EXPLOITERS because the rewards are getting taken away but

I’m glad Kabam took action but I think they should have done it differently as it is both side's fault

Here's an idea, why don't Kabam release new content that works properly and make sure there are no mistakes?
Imagine that, a game that people have spent a lot of money on actually just working as intended (even if they don't communicate what is meant to take place) and not being taken away from them for a mistake that wasn't theirs and wasn't made clear...

....or people could take responsibility for taking advantage of something they knew was an exploit, instead of blaming the game for letting it happen.

@HippoSleek_J Can you elaborate how what people got banned for, wasn't any of their responsibility? Anyone who has gotten the 7 day ban has yet to admit they have a part in what happened. If you were able to farm 5* Ag's from the event, you don't think something is wrong or something you shouldn't be doing? What event in the history of MCOC have you been able to farm rewards with unlimited capacity before? Please tell me the event. I'd love to know what I missed because i've been playing since the beginning. Enlighten me.

Do you know how technology works? Clearly not so let tell you that technology is not perfect and has flaws. Also people are not perfect. Have you made mistakes in your life? Yes, everyone has. So suck it up buttercup and remember not to a take advantage of Exploits next time:)

    Ehhhhh, not so much.

"Making mistakes" isn't an issue for me. When "making mistakes" becomes your normal method of operation, I take grievance with that.

I'm usually one of the first to say "suck it up", but this time, Kabam was playing with a loaded deck.

Rules weren't made entirely clear... and yes, I know, people should have known what they were doing wasn't right; however, people are optimistically dense.

Kabam shouldn't have punished them the way they did. Take away their stuff? Absolutely. A week ban? Nah.
Rules were incredibly clear. 1 key, 1 path. Looking at the paths, you can see they each require a key. Some require 2. How is that unclear?

I said people are optimistically dense.

They use a key... do a path.

Wait, I have another key? Wow.

    Does another path.

Sweet! I keep getting keys. This is awesome.

...look, like I said, people should have known. But, people are also stupid.
Stupidity shouldn't be treated as an excuse to not do something.

Ignorance of the law isn't a legal defense in court, and neither should it be appropriate in these situations. However, Kabam is kind enough to let those who only realized after an additional run go.

    Fair enough.

Take away the rewards, reset it and give them a negative key count to work off if they want a few rewards.

Giving them a 1 week vacation? Too much, IMO.
    Perma ban them all.

How would they learn their lesson if they don't get banned? If I was exploiter and I got my rewards taken but not banned, I would exploit next time, not tell, and persist on doing it so... well its just my opinion.

Imagine not having to worry about people taking advantage of glitches for their own personal gain by just being good people and helping correct the mistake in the first place. Imagine how the world would be when we don't have slimeballs who place blame on anyone but yourselves.

    Imagine.
To be fair, that's a learned human trait.

If it wasn't, people wouldn't burn down the cities, riot and loot their neighborhood stores.
Yes, of course it's human nature to want things. But there's a difference between feeling a certain way and acting a certain way. Actions are what define us. Not our morals. That's why I hate the idea of morals, as well as the idea that people should be rewarded for having good morals, and punished for having bad morals.

What you do is more important than what you feel. We're not sh*tting on people who want more things. Hell, I want more too. That doesn't mean I'm going to act on my urges. Saying that it's human nature (or a learned human trait) does nothing but provide an excuse for doing wrong.

I guess they needed to ban accounts for 168h because they are going to do roll-back and in that way stop players from doing stuff in game because any way everything is going to be reverted as it was before exploitable bug. I have feeling that there was a lot of exploiters and that's why they don't want to do permanent bans like before... simply Kabam don't want to lose players because some of them spent money and going to spend money after ban... That's simply my opinion.:)

I am one of the banned players and to be honest I expected more support from our fellow players in the forums.

It was the first day of the quest and to many of us it was unclear that we were breaking a rule. A 7-day ban is just too severe a punishment for an unclear rule on the first fat of a quest in which not all of us were clear on how the rewards would work.

Kabam is in the wrong. They made a mistake by uploading content with bugs and instead of looking for accountability within the company, they took their anger on the players in a vindictive, self-righteous, ethically judgemental, hot-tempered decision that should be withdrawn immediately.

I have never cheated in anything in my life and I refused to be called a cheater by Kabam just because they want to shift the focus of the discussion away from their own mistake.

Well to be fair Kabam did make note of their mistake and their part in it.. but if you read the forums and the mail in your in box describing the event it notes that you must obtain a key through objectives to unlock one path. To say that one could do this and acquire multiple AG or countless units in the plat pool line and think this is the way they intended it is just foolish. The sentence they handed down was light and apparently effective,.. although a week isn’t long I suppose that’s different in the battle realm. So may it be a lesson learned to all who abused it,...if it doesn’t feel right don’t do it!

    1) They told you how the event was going to work.
    2) Even if you did run it 1 or 2 extra times, they pardoned you.
    3) If you ran it more times, it's likely that you would've known it was a bug. Anyone who thinks that they could keep running a quest over and over an unlimited amount of times for 1k 6* shards without it being a bug is, to put it frankly, stupid.
    4) They acknowledged that it was their mistake, but that also doesn't give you the right to exploit either.
    5) Their decision wasn't ethically judgmental. It was well within the rights they had laid out to you in their TOS. Any violation of the TOS can be punished (although they don't always, that's for another discussion).

Knowingly using bugs or unintended methods to gain an advantage in the game is considered exploiting and is forbidden by our Terms of Service, which you can review at the link below.

    - Kabam Terms of Service

We aim to keep a balance of fairness in The Contest for all players. However, when players choose to exploit a bug or use an unintended method to gain an advantage over others in the game, they ultimately affect the balance that we're trying to maintain. In such situations, we feel it's necessary to punish any offending players for their actions. Regardless of whether or not you agree with how we choose to punish those players, it's not something which is up for discussion or debate on these Forums.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep The Contest fair for everyone.
