For anyone out there with a jailbroken device it looks like kabam implemented a jailbreak detection last night on September 9th. The game will stick on the marvel screen for a few seconds and then crash. This didn’t come in the update on the 2nd so they snuck this one in.

There are probably cracked versions of the game up in repositories. Would make sense that they not want you being able to install things from outside sources. Been a long while since I tinkered with iOS devices though so I'm not sure if there are other options for that outside of jailbreaking now anyway

Lol, what are we talking about? Is it just iPhone related?

Might depend what OP is referring to when he says “jailbroken”.
Bypassing Google Play like on Huawei that otherwise no longer has access to authorized Google Play for download ? (May not be allowed)
Or modified OS of phone ?
Doesn’t Jailbroken also refer to modifying to get phone to work on different Wireless Carriers ?
Loading Android onto a PC (not allowed, unless it was one of a specific few like some Chromebook that was made with that native support built in).
Some of above type of cases may not be allowed.

If some method to change internal OS settings, reminds me of the days of Microsoft's Tweek UI for Windows (let you change a whole bunch of settings that weren’t otherwise available via Control Panel).

you cannot actually state that, you dont know what other people are doing it for. The game uses the app/playstore to enure that the game is being played as intended and to limit the ways people can cheat. When you jail break a phone all of that goes out the window. YOU may not be cheating, but I assure you others are, or atleast trying to.

Jailbroken phones (ios or android) can also be overclocked to perform faster. This would affect Legend runs, I'd imagine.

    How do you do that?
    This lag is killing me!

It will also heat the phone. Overclocked processors tend to heat a lot.

I was referring to Apple iPhone jailbreak. I have had my iPhone 8 jailbroken for quite sometime and the game always ran fine. I just know that something is different because I can’t access the game now as of yesterday at 5pm. The game has been downloaded through iTunes App Store and not a third party repository I know a different comment mention repositories. I’m just posturing to hopefully let people like myself know that the game crashes like other apps such as Pokémon go etc.

As long as the app is downloaded from the iTunes Store you aren’t breaking any TOS just by having a jailbroken phone. The jailbroken state won’t affect the game or modify the game files unless the person adds to it form third party sources.

Some apps like Netflix don't work on rooted Android. These apps use SafetyNet API which allows the app developer to check whether the device has been tampered in anyway or not.
But on Android there are ways to bypass SafetyNet.
Jailbreak on iOS is similar to Root on Android.
The game can check if your device is jailbroken/rooted.

on non jail broken phones a person cannot do that. You are asking a company to take the word of people already breaking the ToS of the device/os to not break the rules of the game, when you know some/many of them will do it. A company is not going to, nor should they be required to, accept that risk.

@Lormif ^^ totally true, however kabam will be able to check the state of the phone within game jailbreak detection. Lots of apps have that. they will also be able to see if the game has been modified in any way. Thus being able to see the amount of people like myself who have a jailbroken device, play by the rules. I get your point, but you can’t assume that everyone who jailbreaks is cheating. The game detects that by whatever means kabam has which from my understanding is they have quite a few ways to detect.

It's easier for them to target all jailbroken devices than just a few that are cheating. It's risk prevention. Is it a little extreme? Yeah, but it's also understandable.

But it's not illegal or even remotely close to cheating.
it is illegal, jail broken phones used modified OSes that is copyright infringement. You typically wont get in trouble unless you are distributing it, but is highly illegal and a felony.

That's not true in the slightest.

Jailbreaking laws differ from country to country.

In the US it isn't illegal to jailbreak, but it is however illegal to use modified software downloaded onto jailbroken devices.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking#Legal_status

You can check the legality here.

But overall, I can see why Kabam has implemented this, even if I don't necessarily agree with them doing it.
I would not use wikipedia for legal advice. you can legally break a lock, but you cannot legally modify and distribute modified, copyrighted code.

You can check the references and sources for the legality. You can also just Google "Jailbreaking Law" and come up with thousands of results.

again, you can break the lock, the DMCA has an exception for that, but you cannot distribute modified source code. It depends on how you jail break and what tools you use

Keep it constructive fellas don’t want the post being taken down. I was just trying to inform those with a jailbreak, or anyone interested in jail breaking that the game seems to now have a jailbreak detection that’s functioning like Pokémon go. It crashes the app before it starts up.

Exactly, so it's not illegal to Jailbreak. It's against DMCA to distribute the jailbroken OS. That's two very different things, one is for the sole purpose of personal use, the other is distribution which the legality comes into play as it can "negatively effect the IP Holders profit".

It's like buying a movie, totally legal, and then making a copy to share on the internet and distributing it which is illegal.
