The given keys for the new game won't get wasted

I tried to complete a six star shards on October event (cosmic ghost rider ) but ended up unable to finish it ... then I chosed to quit by making up my mind its okay to let go the key. But after I quit I realized that my key is still there? Is this a bug issue ? Isn't the keys meant to lose if you are unable to complete this month's quest?

    you could have multiple if you did limbo more than once.
