Spidey Reviews Fan4stic

So, since this is a Marvel game forum, and some of us like certain films, why not watch them and review them, and discuss it with the forum? So, my first review in this new “series” is 2015’s Fan4stic, directed by Josh Trank and a few other people. Let’s get into it.
My overall thoughts on this movie are that it’s a waste of potential. There is so much that could’ve been done with this film, but it’s just so… meh. The cast is good, Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell (her husband), and Micheal B. Jordan were fairly good for what they’re given, and they look good as superheroes. The supporting cast is also pretty good. (except for Doom)
I wanted to like this film, I really did. I enjoyed the character introduction and building the device to get to Planet Zero or whatever, and them actually going there and getting powers was neat.
Then… it got worse. Which is weird. As soon as they get the cool powers, the movie gets worse. Partly due to the fact it skips a year after, so they’re already accustomed to their powers, and partly because they use them as background things while they do more talking. Counting credits, the final battle on Planet Zero doesn’t start until there’s 17 minutes left in the movie. Seriously, this movie needed an extra 30 minutes of run time. On to the pros!
Pros:
The powers look cool. Sue’s force fields, Johnny’s fire, Reed’s stretchiness, and even Ben looks decent.
The Doom hallway sequence. It is, by far, the best part of the film. He just blows people’s heads up left and right, and it looks amazing.
The chemistry between Ben and Reed is also nice, and you can tell that they’re best friends. At certain points.
Cons:
Doom. Doom is so stupid in this movie. First off, his costume is actually the worst. He doesn’t even look like Doom, more like a Power Ranger had a child with a Ninja Turtle. He’s all rocky with green light cracks, and is introduced 20 minutes before the film ends. Second, his motivation for destroying the Earth is… uh… what exactly? The Earth is dying, so I’m going to kill it and make my own world back on Planet Zero? Huh? And finally, after that hallway scene where he kills a bunch of people, he then decides to beat the Fantastic Four… with rocks. Because, why not!
WHY DOESN’T THING HAVE PANTS (no seriously, why doesn’t he have pants)
They team up with 17 minutes left in the film, counting credits. It takes over an hour for them to wrap up the origin of their powers. Speaking of origin, they get these powers, and then skip a year to where they’re working with the government. Why? You take time to show 5th grade Reed (who really shouldn’t be in public school, by the way) making a bio matter transport, but don’t show people getting used to their powers?
Sue is adopted? Could not just make the Storm’s all one race, that Sue had to be adopted? Also, a terrible fake accent. I can do that.
There are a lot more issues, but I don’t have the time to type them all up.
Conclusion:
Should’ve called it Fan4suck. 3/10
