So what does abuse and spam do on the forums?

I was just wondering this I’ve always noticed them but never knew what they are? Can someone explain to me?

Just an option for you to alert Kabam to someone using the forums in a way you think they shouldn’t. This is often when someone doesn’t think your post is at all relevant or if you post too much, but it is actually pretty useful, like if for some reason your device decides to post the same post three different times (mine has done that before) then people can flag two of them as spam and get Kabam to remove the clutter. Don’t take it too seriously unless you’re actually doing something you probably shouldn’t.

Like, I would say “guys I think this is why kabam did X” in support of their decision, and people flagged it for spam and abuse simply because they didn’t agree.

yah and they removed it for us because I think the mods actually got notified for spam and abuse flags, and they were basically used as what disagrees do now, so they only let guardians do it so they can actually get notified for real spam and abuse

Worse, I acquired a large new pile of disagrees on some thread yesterday and then the thread disappeared. Don’t even know what statement they were disagreeing with.

That's why it's no better than the others. People spam it regardless of the posts' content. Mine already has 2 disagrees.

it has become: “I don’t like this person so I’ll just hit disagree on all of their posts”

half of GW’s disagrees come from that mentality.

I ignore them regardless. My like count has always been above either though now it's creeping up. I've made my bed here so I'll gladly sleep in it.

Spam and Abuse is not a comment we disagree with, and it's not someone we don't like posting. That's what led to the Flagging being abused.
In my day, if we didn't like someone, we scrolled on. (Ok, Boomer.)

That is precisely what makes it better. Spam and Abuse were abused, because people were flagging posts that were not spam or abuse just because they didn't like them. This was technically against forum rules, and you could even get banned for doing it in theory, but the mods didn't want to ban everyone who did this (if you did it excessively, you could be). Meanwhile, it caused a lot of work for the mods that now had to track down every time someone decided that they disliked something and so were going to flag it because of their psychological need to scream into the wind.

Now, we have a button that serves the same purpose as the close door button in the elevators. It does nothing but give button pushers a button to push. It directs that need into a direction no one else needs to care about if they don't want to.

In my opinion, this is better. I was originally against the disagree button because I thought it was meaningless. Now I'm in favor of the button precisely because it is meaningless.

Any form of disagree buttons in any forum can easily create a toxic environment. Removal of it would encourage people to actually offer counterpoints to things they disagree with, inciting more civil and educated discussions that maybe can lead to a common understanding, instead of just throwing shade at someone by tapping a button.

Actually, I think it's poetic. You can spam it, but it doesn't affect anything.

that's exactly why it's not as bad lol. no one cares about the things on your profile. it just makes it easier for the mods to get the actual spammers and abusers
