Also I have a r3 5* Hulkbuster unawakened off screen

So I have an issue. I've just been doing the eqs each month. Do I have a shot at any variant completion with this roster or story thing, being bad at the game? I've done no variants and have explored through act 4 and completed through 6.1.

What should I be doing to get stronger?

    Your main goal should be exploring act 5. You could try variant 4 and 5. Variant 4 would probably be easier but you might be able to do v5 with your venom the duck and Claire voyant.
