They stated that this year more of the top rewards were focused on the individual side rather than the Alliance side of the event. I don't recall the details of last year's top individual rank rewards, but I know this year is notably better.

2020 Gifting even is much more focused on Solo rather than alliance.

Idk even the solo gifting rewards (top 6%-10% and below) look a bit lackluster to me as well. Gotta keep in mind you have to blow a boat load of units to even get there as well...

Last year rewards had big meaning because nobody had rank 3 6* yet.

Today all the rewards are pretty much meaningless.
