Ways of getting 6 star champs

Hey guys! I wanted to ask how to get more 6 star champions in the game? I know many people think that it is all about $$$ for the champs, but how can one get 6 star champs in the game without putting in the bucks? Top AW alliances also give good number of shards, but that would be a very rare option for getting 6 star champs. Any other better and easier sources?

    Side quests give a lot of 6* shards. This month gives 11000 if you do legendary and play it right.
