Side quest - final node is bugged and gains energy

I've had a number of fights now against Unstoppable Colossus where I have been using Symbiote Supreme and he ends up with a red bar of power when the immobile timer ends. Fortunately I had enough health to survive it via Null's Shadow

I thought he was not supposed to move/gain power until the timer expired?
