There’s no alternate universe where I can see CM as equivalent to GotG2. CM is one of the most pedestrian MCU films and operates like a preemptive retcon.
I used to love comic-book Carol. But I’d put movie Carol with the likes of IM2, Dark World. It feels forced and even SLJ can’t save it and without Ben Mendelsohn, it’s tough to watch.
But...it is a better 80’s retro movie than WW84, so I will give it that.
Also: you need a completely separate lower category for Hulk. Faced with being forced to watch Hulk or Justice League, I’d have to go DC. Hulk is straight to video caliber.
Both Spider-Man movies are S tier imo but that might just be cuz Spider-Man is my favorite Marvel character
He's one of my favorite Marvel characters too. Which is why I'd call both movies D tier. The MCU version of Spider-Man is a completely different character. He's more like Amadeus Cho or Riri Williams than he is Peter Parker and it drives me insane. I just can't.
I understand your point, Spider-Man is played down a lot because so far he's needed help from supporting Avengers like Iron Man. Hopefully Spider-Man 3 puts the focus on Spider-Man himself.
Yeah, it's not just him getting played down and needing help though, I'm okay with that. And I'm fine with not having a Spider-Man origin movie since we've already seen it more than once, but I do wish there were at least references to his motivation in the MCU. His parents and Uncle Ben's deaths have always been the key to him as a person. Always. And the MCU is just acting like they never existed. His character in the MCU really does seem a lot more like Riri Williams imo.
Fair enough. I didn't really mind that his backstory wasn't explained thoroughly because I feel we got enough of that in the previous Spider-Man iterations (Toby and Andrew), but that's just me.

that’s because it’s in the 90s
Ahhh...that explains why it felt like I lost a decade of my life slogging through its mundane script and glacial pacing.

Honestly, I'm one of the very few that absolutely loves Garfield's movies. The acting is phenomenal, the story is compelling, the chemistry between Peter and Gwen is perfect, and if they did anything right, they really nailed Spider-Man himself. Maybe not Peter, but Spider-Man is perfection. The way he moved, the way he fought, the outfit, all perfection. I really don't know why people don't like them.
Though the Villains and motivations in the 2nd movie are sub-par, the rest of the movie is too perfect to pass up on.
I liked his version quite a bit. I feel like he was a better spider man than Toby.
I hear a lot of people say that Toby makes the best Peter, Andrew makes the best Spider-Man, and Tom makes the best mix of both. And I can honestly get down with that. It's just too bad for me that Tom is forced to play a completely different character with Peter's personality.
Toby makes the best early comic to movie version. Toby is pretty much who peter parker was as written in the original comics. Everything a male was in the 50's and 60's.
Andrew makes the best modern comic to movie version. Andrew portrays where the comics are now with Peter. He's a bit edgier and captures more of the witty quips we know from Spider Man and is able to push that envelope a bit more as Andrews comedic timing is far above and beyond Toby's.
Tom is everything we could want in a movie version of Spider Man. He very much a mix of both but the thing for me is Tom is trying to be 15 and looking 25. The softer, innocent voice doesn't match him at all and I feel he could be funnier like Andrew. I like Tom's storylines a lot though. It's just cool seeing Spider Man in the MCU where he belongs.
Yeah, that's a really good way to put it. Gotta say I can't agree with liking Tom's storyline though. I really do want to, and he really does belong in the MCU, and I do love seeing him there with all my other favorite characters. I just can't get behind him being Iron Man's protege instead of his own character.
Again, I think they relied heavily on IM because of contracts and the fact that Sony is "lending" Marvel the character. I don't think there would be so much IM reference if Marvel owned Spider Man rights outright. Spider Man is a strong enough entity that he doesn't need the support at all. So many story arc's that can be used but since Marvel doesn't have the rights, this was plan b.

I agree. GOTG2 while not the greatest mcu film has some good moments, particularly with Yondu as well as an awesome soundtrack and some decent humour. It was fun to watch while Captain Marvel was a bit boring IMO. WW84 was a complete disaster though.

WW84 should have been animated and made into a short story and only on cable. Everything about that movie was so forced.

Spader deserves a lot of credit. Other than him and Bettany’s Vision, that movie is a little flat. Best scene is Avengers hanging out trying to lift Mjolnir.

The final battle is pretty cool. The weird parts of the movie are the product placement (like always) and some of the character interactions fall flat.
Bettany and Spader are the real standouts, particularly the exchange at the end. It’s weird watching this after Godzilla however lol

Yeah—as a stand-alone movie, I think AoU is pretty good (cf. anything WB/DC outside of Nolan’s Batman).
But putting it into the constellation of other incredible MCU films, it deserves a mid-tier ranking.

That is a good scene for sure. I guess I hold a grudge because Quicksiver was killed off as well but other than Spaders performance and Visions intro, I have a hard time remembering anything about it. The only other scene to me that was good was Hulkbuster pounding hulk with his jackhammer fist. The majority of the hulkbuster fight was decent.
Far from home is probably the best MCU movie aside from endgame, purely based on the special effects. One of the best scenes from the MCU is the part where Mysterio manipulates Spider-Man’s surroundings
That’s not enough to justify it being second best. The characters have to be compelling and the plot has to be enthralling enough. It can’t compete with really any film in the a tier for me personally
Close, but no cigar. I've gotta say 3rd personally behind Endgame and Winter Soldier. For action and pure awesomeness alone, yeah, Infinity War was incredible. But I absolutely adore the character building we saw in Endgame and Winter Soldier, plus the action was absolutely amazing there as well.
If I have to choose one character’s films (must be more than one) and decide which character has the best series, I’m going with Cap. Top to bottom, zero clunkers and Winter Soldier is fantastic.
Who’s second? Hard to say...Spidey so far is great, as are the GotG films. Not Iron Man or Thor, AntMan definitely too small scale. Will have to see what BP does now; hope Doc has a stellar second act.
Only change in A and B. And I am again seeing antman, captain America 1 and doctor strange too high for their quality. Spidey films and guardian films are just neglected so badly. Black panther also got shafted. Only good improvement is ragnarok promotion.

Bad plot, setting up a universe, also the character of peter is not good and he takes too many dubious and selfish decisions and also the unwanted parker parents story. All these things make it much less respectable.

how so?
Showing the most accurate peter parker in terms of maturity and age and also plenty of spider-man saving the neighbourhood and realizing the true potential he has without the suit. It's just an amazing journey where spider-man learns what makes himself a true hero.

There is not one friendly neighborhood crime stopped. It is all connected to the aftermath of Avengers. Spider-man shouldn't need to go through the arc he went through at all, because the whole story was him getting a teched out suit from Iron Man, then realizing he doesn't need it to fight Vulture. The other Spider-Men have made their suits and web shooters without AI and stuff, and so did the comic one. It just feels unnecessary to add in the tech suit part.

See the film again. It has nothing to do with avengers. Just the tech used by the villains is somehow made from the aftermath of avengers. And there is plenty of neighbourhood action.Tony gave him the suit but he made web shooters himself and it makes sense as how can a high schooler make such a good costume. It maybe unnecessary but it helps him learn his lesson. You are forgetting that he is too young as compared to other incarnations of spideys.
