Please help. Nick Fury and quake evade?

Hi I am getting used to aegon to complete Abyss..
I have Nick Fury and Quake in my team, I get to about 100-200 combo and I inevitably mess up, and the first hit always hits me and I lose my combo, then the evade from the Fury and quake kicks in on the second hit and evades when it's too late..
Am I doing something wrong, why does evade never stop the first hit of the combo and let me keep my combo going???
