Issue with contest of realms

Aight, so I hadn't played mcoc in a while, and I wanted to try out the new side quest.
First time goes great, I get a bunch of rewards.
Second time the rewards refresh, but I lose all champs so I have to quit out.
Third time the rewards don't refresh, which was weird.
Fourth time, again, the rewards didn't refresh...is this normal? Because I feel I've just wasted two keys for no reason.
