Thinking about switching to iOS. Suggestion on the best 'budget' option?

GiuliameijGiuliameij Member Posts: 1,849 ★★★★
I would like to hear your thoughts about the 3 options listed, my budget is not really high, but at this point I have been playing Mcoc on android for about 5 years (5 in september) and every time my device starts to struggle after a year of play. While it is still great in every other area.
Currently playing on a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 pro, loading times about 4 seconds between fights (turns to 6-8 after half an hour of arena grinding) but I am starting to experience more and more lag during fights that make me miss evades, parries and intercepts.
I am coming from a 6,5 inch display, so the only fear I have for the SE is the size, but it has the best chip that will preform well longer. I don`t mind only using the iOS device at home and using my android phone on the go, but it would be a perk to be able to play everywhere.
Could you explain your thoughts on the devices and your overall winner.

Thank you for your suggestion. My sister in law can pick a new phone is september and has an 8+ she can 'sell' me for cheap. Just figured it was starting to slow down by now, so didn`t really consider it.

I have 12 pro max and the game is glitching/shutting down randomly. I think with the 8 + you should have a similar experience

Ps loading times are fast if the game allows it

I had to vote this way as it is the only iSO device I’ve used. But it’s a good size, the gameplay has always been good, and much cheaper than a newer IPhone.

I play on an ipad 5th gen (‘17) and the game runs fast and mostly smooth.
Loading times are around 2-3 seconds. I suppose the new one should be slightly faster and better performing overall.
*P.S. I had no other applications installed on the device since new, the only application ever installed is MCOC, and the device was bought exclusively for the game, I ain’t sure if that affects it’s performance though.

I have an iPhone 7 and my game crashes fairly regularly. My friend has an iPhone X (which you can find for pretty cheap (cheaper than 1000$ when it was released) at bestbuy or used on kijiji or sum) and the game runs fantastic on there. I would recommend the iPhone SE, I know people who have it and like it a lot, it's basically an iPhone 8 body with an iPhone 11 chip which will make it run very smooth and fast.

I play on both an Honor Play and an iPad 2020 - the phone when I'm out of the house and the iPad when I'm home. I noticed a significant improvement in my play when I got the iPad, and still currently find it far easier to play on the iPad versus my phone, due to the size of the screen primarily. Maybe I just have fat thumbs but it seems far easier to see what you're doing on the bigger screen and you can pick up visual cues from enemies attack/movement animations easier.

Performance wise I don't notice any difference in crashes, frame drops or bugs - both have some and they're pretty much the same.

I’m probably in the minority here but I’m still using my iPhone 7. I get some lag sometimes and loading times will get long at times too but to be honest, it seems like I have similar issues to most people. My device is also 4.5 inches large and I’ve had no problem with it. My point is I wouldn’t be too concerned about buying a device that’s a few years old and whatever size you get, you’ll get used to it soon. In regards to the devices you listed, I’d buy whatever device fits your budget best and not worry about the size or year too much.

I have those iPads, Please don't use them for this game. Especially that iPad mini.
In my device that game crashes almost every fight and after restarting you will have only half health.
I switched to my Samsung s6 edge and it is a lot, i mean a lot, better.

    Lmao How bizarre.
I have the exact opposite experience. iPad mini 5 is brilliant, my Samsung S6 phone is terrible.

iPhone X-XS is the best option for me, larget screen than iP SE. I have iPhone XS, 7nm processor is incridibly fast, opens everything in less than a second. Equal to newer, but cheaper option. If you can’t afford the XS, then the iPhone X is the best option for me.

How is that on Kabam? Might have more to do on what is on both devices outside of Mcoc. Both your statements actually have more prove that it can be very dependend on the device instead of optimization on kabam's side.
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I see the SE has had the majority of the votes, which I assume also come from players that use the phone.
Might look around if I can find someone that has a phone with a 4,7 to 5 inch screen to test the game out on it. (via a new account) to see how the smaller screen feels.
I have also looked around on youtube but see that a couple of ipad versions do not get the iOS animations, which would be pretty nice to have.

I was about to ask the same question, how can that be Kabams fault?
It must be device or end user related. If the game functions perfectly on the device for one person, it would definitely do for another. Unless, as you suggest, the device isn’t optimised to run the game the same way. Personally I only use my IPad Mini 5 to play MCoC and browse the internet, no other apps are installed. If I had multiple apps installed, processes running in the background, and a weaker WiFi signal, the game would obviously struggle. As it would on any device.
I just don’t see how blame can be given to Kabam in this situation.

Portability beats screen size (when comparing phones to ipads), as when you are out and about you can do a few quick arena fights when you get a few mins spare :)

I could always use my current phone when on the move, but it is a very nice Qol thing to consider, since switching between smooth iOS play and my android device would not be very enjoyable.
