HT is not showing Smoulder charges

I’ve taken blocked hits and actual hits in Act 7.2.2 (the footloose path) with my 6* torch and the smoulder counter is not appearing.
My device is iPhone 11 max
iOS 14.5.1
Game is updated to newest version
