Magneto vs Peni Parker: Bug or I'm missing something?

When using Mags vs Peni Parker in the Cav EQ, she obviously gets Magnetized since she's metal. And Magneto can't be autoblocked when it is on the opponent.
But if you hit her when she has above 4 spider charges, the screen says 'Autoblock Failed', but the hit doesn't connect, she holds block and Magneto gets power burned.
Is this intended? Or am I missing something?

The power burn part is happening because peni's power burn triggers when an autoblock would have happened not just if it happens. So even though magneto disables the autoblock itself the power burn applies because the auto block would have happened. It definitely could've been worded better in her abilities.

The hit whiffing part could be a bug but without a video it's hard to say for sure

If autoblock is failing, then she isn't technically autoblocking my hit. So the power drain shouldn't happen.

She doesn't need to actually autoblock. Only attempt it: "When Peni would auto-block a hit, ...". Nothing about blocking anything.

The power burn doesn't require Peni to autoblock you. The ability says when Peni would trigger autoblock then power burn. If the ability requires autoblock to happen, it would say "when Peni autoblocks you, power burn." When the game text reads "when X would do Y, then Z" what that means is if the circumstances would ordinarily trigger Y, whether Y is prevented or not, do Z. If Y actually has to happen, then the game text drops the "would."

The "would" is not redundant text: "when X does Y" and "when X would do Y" are not synonymous. It is slightly semantic short hand for "when X would do Y, whether Y is prevented or not in actuality."

Does that mean that if you have a falter and you attempt to hit her, she can autoblock you? Because it would be pretty dumb. As per the wording explanation above, that is supposed to happen.

Yeah I agree, it feels a tad lazy too when combined with the flat *No True Hit Abilities can work* cause it's just like "No we don't want you to have any Easy Way around this Ability so we found a way to Punish you/Negate every option except the Long Slow Several Combos in Block Option..."

At least they don't Punish Power Burn Immunity and are actively adding a couple more like with King Groot recently, but then that just makes the other Negating Abilities even weirder cause why not just stop All Options if you're gonna stop 90% of them?

Actually, no. If you are faltered, then you can't hit Peni (I'm assuming the simple case in this example without any other weirdness going on, just for discussion purposes). So if you swing at Peni, from her abilities' perspective you would not have struck her, and thus she will not trigger autoblock.

At the risk of over-anthropormorphizing the game engine, Peni's abilities don't "know" you're faltered. They just see you swing. If Peni's abilities think you will land that hit, they trigger autoblock. "When Peni would be struck..." is synonymous with "if Peni's abilities think you're about to hit her, she pushes the autoblock button. This burns four charges and for two seconds Peni's autoblock ability is activated."

The second line which reads "when Peni would autoblock a hit" is synonymous with "If Peni pushes the autoblock button, shoot the target with a power burn." The power burn happens whether or not something causes the autoblock to malfunction, like Magneto.

Easier thing would be for Kabam to just directly state whatever they mean rather than leave it to interpretation. Leaving it open means they can switch it to whatever they want, whenever.

She's certainly annoying.

Annihilus with Darkhawk synergy will punch straight through and suffer no ill effects. Not that either is necessarily a first-choice champion for War Offense.

Personally, I can’t stand this new character. Her visuals are horrific, I basically can hardly tell when I’m hitting her or if she is blocking.
