Kabam's perceived value of Mythic crystals

Perhaps it's just me, but it seems like Kabam is seriously overvaluing the Mythic crystals.



I understand there's a significant difference in drop rates for what you may get, but $50 for a single chance at a 5 or 6* champ compared to the Cav crystal, which is $5 for two Nexus crystals (so effectively 6 chances) seems like a pretty large delta.

One could buy all 5 of the Cav Nexus crystal deals, which equates to basically 30 chances for half the price of one of the mythic crystals.

Is it just me that thinks it's a pretty wild cost difference? If it is, which do you think is the "odd" value? Are mythics priced too high, or is the Cav bundle priced really low?

Yeah Mythic crystals are waaayyyyy overpriced for their odds.

Let’s compare equal costing amounts of crystals and see what the odds are. Working in £’s here: £44.99 for a mythic is about equal to 20 Cavs, which cost £44.9. The odds of getting 0 6* from the mythic is 80%.

The odds of a 6* from a Cav is 3%, but since it’s a nexus, you have 3% 3 times. So the odds of getting 0 6* from one nexus is (0.97)^3 = 0.913. So you have a 91.3% chance to miss out on one nexus cav. But when you open 20 of them, what are the odds that you come away with 0 6*?

0.931^20 = 0.161

So that means you have a 16.1% chance to get no 6*, which is much, much lower than the 80% chance of the mythic Crystal. Which is much better value for money. You have an 83.9% chance to get at least one 6* from an equal value of Cav Nexus crystals compared to 20% chance for a 6* from an equally costing mythic Crystal.


TL:DR Mythic Bad, Cav Nexus good, Cyber Monday better.

I believe Kabam is pricing these from the mindset of a miss in a mythic crystal is still a 5*, and players should still be happy with 5*s. However, these are marketed towards Thronebreaker players who by and large don’t much care for 5* champions anymore outside of the iso and 6* shards they provide.
