AW participation

Hey all, How soon after joining a new alliance can you participate in AW? I know the gifting event payout is on the 6th of Jan, but AW will start on the 5th. So, how many wars will I miss when I join a new alliance after the payout?

You are eligible to participate in the first war in which you were a member before matchmaking began.

You'd have 11 wars after that to get you 5 war minimum for rewards anyways
