Crossbones unawakened?

Pulled a 6* Crossbones out of my first 6* crystal, does he really need the awakened ability to be good or can he still be good without it?

    Unawakened he is still good offensively due to gaining furies, but his awakened ability is very helpful especially at higher sigs to shrug off debuffs. It makes him a much better champ.
