Is Offensive AAR and Defensive AAR combined equal to Generic AAR?

By generic aar, I mean like magneto's -70% against metals and archangel's neurotoxin, and apoc's sp2, etc.

If you have someone who applies both offensive and defensive aar (aka taskmaster), would that mean that it is equal to generic aar? Or does generic aar cover something extra?

I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking, but if a champ like AA’s sig ability states ‘reduces ability accuracy’ and doesn’t specify offensive or defensive, generally it’s both as we’ve witnessed in many cases.

A champ like taskmaster, that you mentioned, can apply both since he can reduce both offensive and defensive ability accuracy in separate abilities.

If something reduces [doesn’t state offensive or defensive] ability accuracy, it can cover both the ability accuracy when that champ is attacking, or when they are being attacked.

If something reduces offensive ability accuracy, it reduces ability accuracy when that champ attacks, like NF’s bleeds.

If something reduces defensive ability accuracy, it reduces ability accuracy when that champ is struck by attacks, like electro’s thorns.

Abilities themselves aren’t denoted as either offensive or defensive abilities, it all depends on what the champion is doing when those abilities occur. If the champ is attacking when an ability triggers, that’s offensive ability accuracy. If a champion is blocking or being struck when an ability triggers, that’s defensive ability accuracy. Obviously some are more obvious than others but some aren’t. Hercules’ awakened ability is a good example. If you use Falcon against herc and hit him while he’s locked on, Hercules will die without triggering immortality. However, if herc is bleeding and attacking a falcon, even while locked on, the bleed will tick him down to one hp and immortality will trigger, because herc was attacking at that time, so defensive ability accuracy reduction doesn’t impact the chance for immortality to trigger

So this should mean that when Taskmaster has -20% OAAR, and -20% DAAR, it's equal to -20% AAR?
I'm aware that OAAR and DAAR are for when striking/being struck, and how abilities aren't really offensive or defensive, but what I want to know is if 'generic' AAR covers more than striking/being struck. Because when an opponent does nothing, by the rules of O and D AAR wouldn't that mean there is technically 0% AAR being applied to the opponent and that nodes can still activate during that time period?
I would assume that generic AAR also reduces ability accuracy permanently (while the opponent does nothing, striking, being struck, etc), but having O and D AAR only reduces ability accuracy while being struck or while striking.

Ah I understand. You mean if they’re standing still, no one is striking either champ, they’re both idle or blocking. I guess you’re probably right, in that it’s not really falling under either offensive or defensive ability accuracy, but overall ability accuracy it would fall under since it is an ability with a chance.

But it sorta depends on the ability.

Let’s take bishop’s regen on block. No champ needs to strike to activate it, so it’s not really OAAR or DAAR by nature. I’ve tested this against elektra (constant 85% DAAR bc I run suicides) and against warlock (Infection gives -30% OAAR and I had 2) and tried to activate the regen and both times it worked all the time, and I tried a LOT of times.

So I guess the answer for bishop’s regen specifically is that it’s not DAA or OAA, because it doesn’t fit in the conditions or what makes those what they are.

Hope this answers your question. This may work differently based on different abilities but from this example it APPEARS like AAR covers that grey area that OAAR and DAAR do not.

But I’ll keep testing this with other interactions and confirm/reevaluate this.
