How does the masteries work when placing def?

Can i activate my suicides rn? I want to grind for spidey but i dont know if my defence is going to be effected. I already placed them.Like do the defenders take my masteries when they are place or when attack phase starts

    the masteries that are on when you place defense, is the final mastery. you can activate suicides now.

    Your Masteries, Rank, Level and Signature Levels are locked once you place your Champions on Defense. Any changes to Masteries, Rank, Level and Signature Levels will not reflect on your War Defenders until they are released from war.
