I have the resources to rank 5 either a sig 100 Guardian or an unduped Shang Chi. I’m Cav, but not the best player around by any means. I do enjoy both play styles, just not sure who to invest in first.

I would personally go guardian although I do believe Shang-chi would be the better option

Overall, I will assume that people will suggest Shang Chi. Personally, I love both, so it is totally up to you. I have a few more questions though:
Do you use suicide masteries?
How many champs do you have of either class?
Is this primarily for questing or also AQ/AW?
Any synergy champs that you use a lot?

Not to complicate things, but it helps make for better recommendations.

Shang chi 100% he's more versatile and easier to use/get the hang of in my opinion

No suicides, I have a few of each but only Nick, Falcon and Ultron at rank 5. Both questing and probably AW. I’ve been having some fun with the FF plus Doom/Dragon Man/Diablo teams, but do run a good bit of Nick with Quake and whoever (usually Angela, Herc or Claire). Thanks.
