Tentative battlegrounds tier list

After playing battlegrounds for a couple hours, here are my thoughts. While I think the mode is somewhat restrictive, I love it overall due to the strategical implications of making a deck and banning other champions. This is my opinion on who the best characters in the mode are. Keep in mind I play with suicide masteries, and that this only applies for the current modifier (masochism). Also this is my opinion :). If yours is different, then yeah, i don't mind lol.

SS = defining the mode, would highly recommend having these champs in your deck, and consider banning them for the opponent if you don't have them. Has either the versatility for both attack and defense or the insane raw damage output to wash down most opponents.

S = very good. Would place in your deck if you have them available. Playing around them doesn't define the game the way that you may see with the SS champs, but they will get a very high level of usage if you do decide to put them in your deck.

A = either has above average offensive value, or is good defensively, but doesn't particularly excel at being versatile. Good in niche positions but certainly not a must have.

B = one or two redeeming qualities. Would not deck or draft if you can avoid it, but in a pinch can suffice, and maybe cause your opponent a headache under the right circumstances.

C = skillset doesn't fit the format. Either doesn't provide enough of a challenge on defense or lacks the raw damage output required to burst down opponents as quickly as the mode requires.

Anyway, hats off to kabam. Although I feel the mode has some flaws, I still think it is the most interesting thing released in quite a while, and look forward to it being official.

Why are Kingpin and Massacre is SS tier?

You'll have to explain why Beast makes S tier.

Killmonger is incredible for this mode, works for both offense and defense and also sort of flies under the radar as people ban other champions and over look him.

Masacre is actually busted for this game mode and nobody bans him, glad to see him in ss tier

a lot of new champs seem to be really helpful. toad, sauron, kraven, etc. there are a lot of champs that i find myself picking every time they're available like void, kitty, and hyperion. but there are also some champs that have come up a number of times and i haven't picked them once (mr f, crossbones, king groot)

Seen a guy on line shred with toad, he seems to be quite legit for the gamemode

I quit for a few months and only came back for this and Carina V2 so I’m not putting any champs on here that I know nothing about. That said I know the toad and Kraven guy and from what he’s said I’m pretty sure toad is the second best champ in the format after Ibom so yeah.

What happens when the node changes and doesn’t favor half of these champions?

In answer to this, it’s highly unlikely that any node change will be so drastic to flip “half of these champions” on their head. If anything some of them such as Ibom, masacre, doom, and magneto could be even stronger, and Elsa/doc oc in particular could see a severe uptick in their usage. But hey, we will know for sure when the second beta/permanent iteration is released

You win a prize for defining your tiers. Others can learn from this.

I’d argue Mojo for S or even SS tier. Obviously one of the more formidable defenders since even when you beat him, you’re likely to take a significant amount of degen damage, but also a viable attacker in unique matches.

My opponent used Storm X as a defender. I didn’t have a good counter option on hand, so I used Mojo because the bulk of his damage bypasses her glancing. All I did was focus on completing his prompts and throwing his sp2 and I finished with nearly a full yellow bar. Took probably 90-100 seconds to do, but if you’re in a matchup that punishes you for hitting or dramatically mitigates conventional damage, he’s a great pick.

As someone with an r3 S200 mojo I have him in my deck and just don’t think he’s very good for the format. The rng associated with the prompts and long rampup time makes him very hit or miss on offense, and while his bulk makes him quite good on defense, I mostly see him as a way to bait out the other person’s torch, AA, or masacre to protect your doom.

I don't know if I see Sersei, but she has been a definite pain to fight so far. The glance and masochism was making it as if I were hitting her with a sponge.

yeah she’s not in the basic so most people don’t have her, but once she enters then she’ll be once more common and then we’ll have to deal with her on a more widespread scale

Sersi is an instant ban from me. Can’t risk her showing up if I don’t get a good Mystic counter from my deck.

Nimrod should be higher imo. My R3 always catches everyone off guard.

It may be my eyes, but American Chavez has to be in Tier A+.

Also - Domino is easy peasy when you bring Guardian against her.

Not every draft will have guardian available. Also domino can shift and be a half decent attacker with solid RNG. Versatility is the main reason I have her in SS. I didn’t put Chavez on the list because I wasn’t playing when she was released and have no experience with her, also haven’t faced her in the mode yet lol

Thats fair. My instant bans are usually Thing, korg and maw. If I see those I just ban and don't think otherwise

I guess this list is based off current masochism node in bg. I can imagine it changing drastically depending on the node but great list

For me I don't even care about the node when I think of bans, I just care about who is gunna he the biggest pain or the longest fight

Tier lists are subjective by nature, but I will say that Weapon X is number one on my ban list. I see him, I'm banning him. I don't care if the rest of the deck is full of 7* rank 12 Dooms. Weapon X is gone.

That’s me with Peni. Weapon X I don’t see that often but everyone bans mine so I don’t bother banning him since they’ll probably ban him anyway
