AW Defiance Champs interaction with Dormammu

What is the interaction supposed to be with Defiance attacker champs against the Miss-tic Dispersion tactic.
As far as I know, is it not supposed to allow the attacker to become immune to buffs, thus not allowing the defenders who benefit from this tactic to nullify/expire the dex buff resulting in a miss and fun and interactive damage?

New to this defense tactic so I'm trying to understand why Immortal Abomination received the degen from dormammu and resulted in activating the Miss-tic Dispersion tactic?
