I already have Thing as a 5* Rank 5 and duped. So I thought Venompool but do I really pass up a 6* Thing?

It might take u a lot of time to get Thing duped & high sig......Till then ur 5* will be the better choice to use
Venompool will add value to ur 6* roster immediately after his rank-up
