Why daily crystals are not auto claimed when summoner event sunglasses are now auto claimed?

This is ridiculous. This event is for 3 months so devloper provided auto claim.
Daily crystals which goes for 24 hours and sometimes, the time to claim them increases due to sleep or other activities are not auto claimed?
What's the idea behind this?
Shouldn't we have more QOL for that?

Nah. I don’t think it’s really all too necessary for the sunglasses even (guessing I’m in the minority there) but it’s really not that hard to log in and get your crystal. If you have a set time to do it every day, the time won’t increase that much

You need to login and remember to claim those crystals why would they auto claim? It’s been part of the game since I started in 2016.

The sunglasses haven’t been here forever, but the crystals have. Auto claiming four hour crystals even when not logged in would be crazy beneficial, if at all possible.

One compromise I would like in the future is when I login, if these crystals are ready to be claimed, auto claim them

I'm thinking it's because of the whole trouble last year with people forgetting to collect them because of the lack of red number popup when the quest was complete.

I mean, technically the 24H crystal could just be on its own calendar, but...

I agree. The auto claim feature appears to be a means by which, having done the requisite task, you get the reward without extra steps. I think it’s unreasonable to ask to have 4 hour crystals and daily crystals claimed in the background when not logging in. But if you are logged in, which is supposed to be what these things are motivating, it’s reasonable to have an auto claim.

i strongly dislike this QoL. how in the world can you be middle-aged and forget? its in the stash for what? a day or two? and you still forget to claim when you basically need to log in to play some AQ or burn some energy for the monthly event or at least something? IF you are young and still forget then you are actually too old.

What is strange is that the easiest solution would be to just get a number/notification that there is something to claim.

A simple "1" on the bottom of the screen reminds me that there is a new weekly objective, or that a daily objective reward is ready to claim.

Seems really weird that they have not implemented that for the Summoner's Event, when that is basically all that people were clamoring for last year.

I can provide some insight into this, certainly.

The reason the feature exists for the Summoners Camp/Resort objectives is that we don't want summoners to lose out on a potential next objective, thus punishing them, even though they've already completed an objective. You shouldn't be penalized for completing objectives.

The reason this feature is not implemented for daily crystals, etc. is because that would deincentivize players from even opening the game.

The feature is making things easier to play not making it so you don't have to.

Actually, currently you get the crystal for remembering to claim it.
I don’t know if people log in just for he crystal but it would be nice to collect it automatically when you do.

Not really. Large ammounts of the same crystal barely impact the server at all.

Having it auto claim when you login still has you login... but that isn't the QoL we really need.

Daily crystals need to be on the same 24 hour reset like calendars are. I have missed out on so many daily crystals over the years because I'll claim one at 11 at night and then the next day fall asleep and not get my daily until 6am. It should be as long as you login within the 24 hour window you get your daily crystal when you get your calendar for the day.

At the risk of contradicting Jax, I believe he's glossed over something in his explanation. The reason auto-claim doesn't exist for the daily and free crystals is almost certainly because the game explicitly wants you to go get them. It is just that simple. Things like the calendar and the free crystals are engagement tools. They are there to encourage players to think about and play the game. The calendar exists to reward players who log in consistently. Ten minutes a day for thirty days is better than six hours on one day, because the explicit intent is not to encourage minutes of gameplay, it is to encourage coming back consistently. That's why it is there.

The crystals are there not just to encourage people to log in, the calendar already does that. They are there to make sure people are thinking about the game, remembering to not just log in, but to actively go claim something. That tiny bit of extra thought and action increases player engagement with the game and increases their psychological value. A small thing you get for free that you don't even have to do anything to get has less value than something you have to expend effort to get. And yes, I'm aware the crystals predate the calendar, but this is their relative roles now.

The objectives are different yet again. They intend to drive even higher levels of engagement, by asking players to check on them, see what they ask for, and deliberately do the things necessary to achieve them. They are asking for a lot more than the calendar and the crystals. And they place higher demands on the players, because missing a crystal just means one less crystal. Missing an objective will eventually set you back to the point where you will miss the higher value rewards in the objective chain. That's a pretty high penalty for missing, which is the same thing as saying that's a pretty high reward for not missing. Given that situation, should players who actually go through the trouble of achieving the objectives still incur the penalty if they simply forget to claim them?

Well let's see. The objectives are usually not special tasks unto themselves. They don't require you to stop your game play, go do a specific thing, and then come back. They are actually deliberately designed so that they can be completed *while* you are playing the game. You just have to keep them in mind and try to accomplish them while playing normally. This means you have to remember to do them, until they are done. Once they are completed, you can forget about them and return to normal play.

Except this creates an opportunity for a mental disconnect. You log in, check the objective, continue playing the game while trying to do the thing being asked for, then when it is completed you can drop it from your mind and play normally. What's going to remind you to collect the objective when you're done doing whatever it is you were doing? You might remember. You might choose to stop your play temporarily to go collect it when you achieve it right then and there, so you don't have to remember later. But that's sort of the opposite of what the devs intended: they intended you to not have to stop your play and do something special. But if you continue on, you might forget. And it is the very design of the objectives - trying to be things the player doesn't have to take extraordinary measures to accomplish - that create this circumstance.

This makes autoclaim reasonable for these objectives. A player that does what you need to do to complete them has already done what the designers were hoping for. Asking the players to check, then do, is all they wanted. Asking them to do it while playing normally was also intended. Having to remember to go back and get them was not intended. This is fundamentally different from the calendar and the crystals. The calendar asks players to log in, so logging in is itself sufficient. The crystals ask players to remember to get them, so players have to fetch them. The objectives ask players to check the objective and alter their gameplay to accomplish those tasks, so that should be sufficient. Claiming was an extra step originally required by technology limitations, not design intent. So removing that requirement for them specifically is not just making things easier for players, it is doing so in a way that follows the intent of the content.

What’s the difference between me actively claiming it or the game claiming it for me when I open it?

I also have over 1200 TB free crystals btw. Around 120 paragon crystals too. I can’t see this being uncommon in the player base.

You can't actually hoard those in that way, because if you don't claim them, another one doesn't become available until you do.

how in the world can one forget to claim the objectives? while you still have to log in the game to do some AQ movement or burn some energy to monthly event/side quest then there is no reason for you to forget the objectives. This auto-claim thingie is not worth it.

Would be nice if its daily, just stick it in a calendar. Each day we log in, we get it. If we don't log in, we don't get it.

I think the irritating part is having to claim it at a certain time and if you miss it you might sleep then get it the next day.

Alternative is to have the time reset at the same time daily when claiming, not having to wait 24 hours after you've claimed.

Correct, I meant if they auto-claimed, people would be opening mass amounts at a time, more than they are. I could very well be wrong, but I don't imagine that would be good for the server.
