If the 'hint' announcement had come much earlier in the year then I would be much more ok with it. There are plenty of ways to have fun with this game. But I have a lot of legit units on alts that I want to use, but do not want not use on alts, as this game is already a big time sink.
“Don’t worry about all that time you spent earning worthless units on your alt account. You can ignore your family over Christmas vacation to unhappily revive your way through Carina’s Challenge Vol 1 with the two weeks of resources we’ll give you access to.”

I may finally end up doing abyss first clear. Lol!!

Just to play devil’s advocate, the future continuation of the gifting event was never guaranteed by Kabam. We all just worked off the assumption it would because it’s been there for years and we know it’s a money maker for the company. But we also know it’s been a source of headache and frustration for both the company and the player base.
Only reason I have an alt account is to send myself GGC. Have 9000 units saved up since last gifting event. All down the drain. Ridiculous
You were essentially taking advantage of the system and it's Kabam's fault... You knew this wasn't their intention and there was always the chance they'd fix it
I 1000% disagree. Kabam knew this would happen and welcomed it. It padded their unique users which is great for their valuation and attracting investors.
Not this again. This is literally just stringing together buzz words. Kabam (at least the studio behind MCOC) is a privately held company. They were purchased by and are wholly owned by Netmarble. They do not have a valuation. They do not have investors. Nor does Netmarble have private investors to lure with Kabam's numbers, because they are a publicly traded company. BY LAW they can't give some information to some investors and not others. If I don't know what MCOC's numbers are, no one else outside of Netmarble does either. Kabam does not in any way benefit from people rolling alts, because how many active accounts they have is not something they publicly announce (excluding some annual puff piece numbers), so it is impossible for them to impress anyone by inflating those numbers.
All of this is publicly available information, for anyone who does any research into what they are talking about.
And btw how does this stop the real scammers, The unit loaders?
If by that you mean how does this stop people from committing fraud outside of the game and then use fraudulently acquired cash or gift cards to buy units in the game, it does not do that because that's impossible. MCOC cannot stop crime: it isn't Batman, and has no rights to DC characters. Ending gifting only prevents such people from attempting to use MCOC as a money laundering resource, taking dirty money and using in-game gifting to launder that money into clean cash acquired from idiots.
Whether you steal some grandma's SIM card or stick up a 7-11, we can't stop you. But we can stop you from using your stolen resources to cash out by selling those things to MCOC players. That's the limit of what Kabam can police and prevent, and preventing gifting does that.

Brilliant way to have new accounts when it plateaued a long time ago.
Kabam welcomed it? They have changed the gifting event every year to prevent this kind of thing and you think they welcomed it? I think you need a dictionary.
If half the playerbase leaves because they prevented Fraud from occurring, then that's not the half we want to save. Did I say that? #sorry
Why do you spin everything negative then run with that negative assumption? I've grinded thousands of units over the last year on my alt account. I did it for gifting... am I a fraud in some way? Are the 97%+ of people just like me also frauds to you? Or does that 3% fraud that needs to be stomped out supersede all of the rest of us?
It will always be the 3% that spoils things for the 97%. Happens everywhere in life too. That’s why we can never have good things.
Anyway, fully support Kabam on ending gifting. I know some of my ex-alliance mates who made 20-30 alt accounts to farm units from the revised A1-4 to send GGCs to themselves for gifting. It’s pretty ridiculous if you think about it (and that was months ago, imagine if he continued the pace).

I agree. I have to think about this from kabam’s pov. If I saw all the money I was losing and all the fraud and stealing going on. I’d close the event down as well.

I think most people are misunderstanding the meaning of the word SCAM.
It wont stop the worlds credit card, money scams... What will it stop?.. the scams ingame of people saying.. trading ggc for ggc .. which is not really a scam.. but ok.. What will it stop?... The black market of ggc .. bots just farming units to later on sell 11 GGC (3300 units... Close to 99.99 bucks = 3100 units) for 60-70 dollars...

My perspective is less for the money they're losing, and more for what's legal and fair. Countless people are affected by fraudulent activities, whether they work for Kabam, financial institutions, or are personally affected. Something as simple as a Gifting Event in a game has become the source of some pretty serious acts. It's either continue playing Whack-a-Mole, or end it.
I became alliance-less a while ago, which has been much more realxing. I was going to miss this event though but now I don't have to worry about that, so it's all good here.

Seems those who don’t have alts and didn’t grind are happy with the change. This who devoted resources rightfully feel blindsided, as we followed TOS did not do anything wrong and are about 9 months into saving…
Whales, and streamers will make out like bandits this year as usual. The fraudsters will find others ways to make their money.
The little guy who grinded multiple accounts, put time, effort and money into those alt accounts, saved every unit for a slim chance to get a Weapon X; Yet we are the ones who will be punished. It is the only way some of us can compete, as most of us cannot afford to spend 1k on a phone game over the holidays for a chance at Weapon X… On top of that not only does it feel like we wasted out time, but it feels like we wasted real money, on units over the past 9 months that are now pretty much useless… I regret all the money I put into this game…
You grinded alt accounts for 9 months under the assumption the gifting event (that’s always been subject to change) would stay the same, despite Kabam never once saying that. That’s your fault.
You’re not punished, there is going to be a substitute kabam deems of equal value coming this holiday season.
Your units are not worthless, they’re still worth just as much today as they were yesterday.
Lastly, your post screams of what’s been wrong with the gifting event for years: the lack of gifting. You’re just grinding another account to further benefit yourself ultimately. Giving gifts to yourself isn’t exactly in the holiday spirit eh?
But on the other-hand there’s just so many despicable people out there, and the global chat is just cancer but with extra steps. And even showing generosity was weird because of the culture the game created. I would send people free items and then they would reply “Oh man now I’ve gotta grind arena to pay you back this sucks” Which to means is just baffling. It’s like the concept of “Gift” doesn’t really exist in this game.
So you mean it's just like Christmas in real life lol.
I generally am liking the sounds of this but I do hope the new crystal still has a chance for Thanos. Or who knows maybe they could use the death of the gifting event to make Thanos more generally available!
BREAKING NEWS THANOS KANG AND WEAPON X HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE REGULAR CRYSTALS
They could've just put a limit on it, like 50 GGCs per account.
A cap on the new holiday crystals will not make kabam money. My guess is that kabam will have a solo event with no rank rewards & you can open as many crystals as you want.
Why not tell us sooner? We've seen the criticisms stating that this should have been mentioned immediately after the last gifting event concluded. Ultimately, until very recently, we weren't sure what this year's holiday event would look like. With the amount of fraudulent activity, we weren't able to analyze the full impact until months into 2022. I know there were internal conversations about ways to provide an adjusted gifting event, but every avenue the game team explored lead to more problems. As was stated in the original post, we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to make decisions about how they'd spend their time; we did this as soon as we had an idea that the gifting event wouldn't happen this year, even with limited information about what the new event looks like. This communication came three months prior to a normal communication cadence for in-game events.
How are we supposed to get trophy champs, now? We haven't seen anything to suggest the replacement crystals would remove opportunity to acquire trophy champs. We will continue to keep an eye on the development of this event and will communicate as we have more information, likely closer to the holiday season.
What consumables can we gift? As the details about the new holiday event are still falling into place and there is still a lot to consider, we don't have a definitive list of what will be available. Expect more information closer to the launch of the new event.
Firstly, thank you very much for following up on this conversation, with a tricky and sensitive situation like this, it is good to have you touch base with the players once in awhile.
Secondly, while I can understand the challenges the Kabam having with this event, I'm sure you can see from some of the players point of view, it is quite disheartening. I read this post (from @TrapKill66) a few days a go and feel his pain.
We appreciate some advance notice on this news, however some have put in time and money into their alt account for the past 8 months. While I'm not in the same position, I was looking forward to gifting some GGC to my nephew over the Christmas period.
As you mentioned that the Event detail is not finalised, I was wondering if you could pass on my thought to the Kabam team, and where it is possible to compromise a little for both Kabam and the players, just for this year. By letting players to gift only limited amount of GGCs (or what the new crystals will be), say 10 GGCs, in that way for anyone that have put in the work in the past 8 months can still do a little trading while at the same time limited any kind damage is might cause.
I vote for gifting event stay as is for this year. Cheat and fraud involve is a matter of handling it right, but the solution to scrap the event is no no. Find a better solution at least middle ground that acknowledging playerbase time and effort. I put it this way, it just like stop selling a car while the police tired handling car thieves, scam whatsoever. Dont you see it?

Those are the only real reasons why the gifting event was good to me.
Please let us get those and after you can throw the event to the trash !
Essentially it’s grind at your own risk

I'm not sad that the gifting event is going away and I will continue to play all three of my accounts.

The gifting event has been a mess every year and Kabam have desperately tried to keep it going.
This makes complete sense to me and all those with alt accounts can now enjoy more irl time - win win!
You guy's think they'll reduce the level 40 requirement?
