I think they ended up getting the black screen of forfeit where despite finishing the game kicks them out of the round.

Never give up on bg fights no matter how horribly you play. And never throw a match just because you got a terrible matchup and the other has an infinitely easier round. You never know how things go.ive had matches where I would've won had i just paused the game
