This comes down to the individual person, roster and mastery setup.

Some champs like nick fury need the awakening to reach there real potential with damage and utility whereas champs like herc need the awakening to unlock additional utility which is not necessary but it is really powerful, so choose accordingly

I would say Hercules, kitty And Nick Fury Are my First choices to awake gems.

I used my gifting AG on Ghost.
Once you use ghost awakened, it takes time to go back to using ghost unawakened and it's really not as fun

I totally agree with this! I used the act 7 generic on ghost; i used to have a 5* max sig in previous account and in the new account pulled the 6* and it feels like ages till you get to the sp2…. Therefore ghost definitely generic worthy!
