Units and alliance banquet

Sooo gifting starts I gift allianc my units I have saved up only to see a message can’t claim rewards for 2 days due to not being in alliance long enough! I joined current alliance before December I think. Log on today when I can claim rewards and none available in alliance banquet. Now I have no units as used them all to gift to alliance me got to start again getting units to get rewards! Doesn’t really seem fair now does it. Surely what you have spent should have been banked!!
