I love Battlegrounds and have been able to make it through the Victory track by mid season with relative ease which made sense given the progression of my account (Paragon, with most of the champs in the game as 6*'s). Seasons 1-3 I found Gladiator circuit was where the top end game players really flourished and were able to push far while the general end game player jumped back and forth between Uru and Gamma mostly based on which accounts have more R3 sig 200 and R4 champs.
Season 4 was a completely different beast....a humbling, confusing, frustrating beast. I changed my deck about a dozen times throughout the season trying out all the best suited champs for this Meta, and by the end of the season I've only been able to make it to Platinum 1 and I'm pretty sure I played triple the amount of matches to get to this point than any other single season. Additionally the ONLY way I was able to even play that many matches is because I dumped dozens of energy refills into my main account from a few sub accounts during the gifting event, otherwise I'd probably be in Gold 3.
Trying to figure out what went wrong and why I struggled so much I decided to look at my roster and see if maybe I was missing more of the best options to work against this meta and be competitive so I made a list of all the champs that work for this meta on offense and defense as 6* rank 2 min. By my count I had 58 great options to sue for my decks which is a really decent pool to build decks from. Then I decided to look at which champs I didn't have and came up with a list of 3 champs (see below). Coincidentally all 3 of those champs were ones I had to ban at fight selection, and that happened probably 90-95% of the time. The 5-10% of the time I didn't ban them was either because they other person didn't have them or I decided to gamble and ban different champs for some reason.
In conclusion, for my season my main challenge was not having 3 out of 62 viable options for the Meta, which is pretty a sad realization. Adding insult to injury one of those champs were on just widely available from the last featured crystal and he was the only champ I didn't pull from that featured crystal (out of 40ish attempts).
All I can hope is that Season better rewards a combination of roster size AND skill. Without the right champs this season it was pretty impossible to win on your skill alone (proof positive by Vega's BG tournament where Lagacy lost to Fintech a lot based on roster selection and not skill).
All that said I'm still VERY much looking forward to Season 5... Hopefully Kabam learns from the mistakes on Season 4 for the Victory track Meta (Gladiator circuit is meant to be more niche and punishing).
