Do we need Wish Crystals anymore?

There are some updates to the game that were part of previous roadmaps that haven’t yet been delivered and there’s been no update as to if they should still be expected.

Wish crystals is one of them.

I’m of the opinion (and I may be in the minority I don’t know) that at this point in the game, we don’t really need wish crystals anymore. RNG is still a massive factor in the game, but the amount of shards that are available now is off the charts compared to when the concept was first introduced. So yes, you can still get bad RNG pulls, but the frequency of openings has massively increased. Not only that we are seeing more and more nexus and even abyss nexus crystals.

The amount of 5* and 6* Shard availability is leading to massive Featured Crystal hoardings for a lot of players. Past a certain point 5* champs are just iso collectors.

I doubt wish crystals is something Kabam are still working on anyway, but we see regular posts asking for updates on when they will drop in the game. I just feel the abundance of crystal availability in the game makes the need for wish crystals redundant in 2023.

Lately we gotten champs who are amazing that we end up saving 6* shards for feature giving us more chances at pulling those champs.

Opening massive amount of crystals still doesn't guarantee your most wanted champ . Wish crystals would have been a step ahead of this RNG c**p . But they named it Wish crystal for a reason ...players will keep wishing.

The game is inherently RNG based. When 6* first came I think it was about a year between my first and second. Now it’s on average at least one a week, if not 2 when you include all July 4th, Cyber Weekend, Solo Incursions and Battle Ground Store, act content, AW, Banquet/Gifting, EOP etc. So yes the chances of pulling a rubbish champion hasn’t changed, but the frequency at which we can open them probably far and away exceeds anything we expected 2 years ago.

For the most part. While it's easy for some to complain that they're still not getting what they want, we're also seeing a lot of opportunities for people to fill in the gaps in their collections.

Nexus crystals, Selectors, better-than-average buffs, and especially better-designed champs with a more consistent follow-up team have helped to ease a lot of complaints people have had in the past, and outside of a left-field request, the majority of the people who still want wish crystals are usually hunting for the same 5-10 champs, so one good featured usually fixes that one but in the end, it'll always have an RNG presence and short of the arena starting to give guaranteed 5s and 6s (which will probably happen in a couple of years) in the milestones, I don't know what else people would want from a wish crystal.

By including relic materials instead of Nexus (abyssal, class based, yearly based, whatever Kabam could invent) in the bundles, the wish of better crystals remain. With around 240 champions, the odds of getting the desired champion are very low with the RNG, whatever the crystal is. I will likely put a cross on some of them as 6*, even if they were released a couple of years ago.
I have the feeling - and as I could see on the forum I am not alone - of an overdose of relics with more activities on the game. With a feeling of getting less 6* shards and less 6r3 and r4 materials in favor of something I don’t need.
Well, at least. some aspects of the game have become an easy « let it go ».

So, yes, the wish crystals (or something like abyssal crystals ?) remain in the mind and in the favor of the major - and silent - part of the players. The motivation has to be maintained.

Ironically, despite those missing champions, my amount of 6* shards is growing because of the fear of crappy characters (duped or new) in basic crystals openings. Maybe the hope of getting something good is better than the real disappointment.

So far this thread has had 7 disagree (27%) and 19 agree (73%) that wish crystals, in the current state of the game is not needed. I know, it’s a small sample.

There might be a desire to get every single champion as a 6*. Certainly wish crystals would help this, but because it so easy to obtain 6* shards nowadays I still don’t see an argument that justifies them as a future addition to the game. That genuine frustration I would get upon a bad opening just isn’t there anymore as I know it’ll only be a few more days before I can open another one. The choice nexus, class nexus, abyss nexus probably provides enough RNG control to get any missing champions. Featured and Duel crystals further reduce if targeting new or individual champions.

Maybe 7* will create that thrill/disappointment where I’d want a wish crystal. I love Void but would be gutted to pull him as a first 7* (assuming he’s an option). Maybe for 7* there are no basic crystals, they are all Nexus crystals but cost 15k/20k of shards.

There are very few genuine roadblocks in the game now with new champions and nerfs to content. There are also so many champions that have either been buffed or released in the last few years that greatly increase your odds of pulling an appropriate champion for said roadblock.

In combination with this there are so many more 5/6* shards rolling around that you’re getting more and more pulls per month, I don’t actually think that we really need them anymore.

Or, put another way, I think there’s a lot more pressing things that resources should be put towards.
