Relic survey. WTF are sockets?

We got a relic survey today, am I the only one that doesn’t know what sockets are? If anyone knows please enlighten us

Sockets are the ‘slots’ you can pick runes for. So for example the Hulk Relic has a slot that can either reduce enemy physical resistance or increase yours, or increase the effectiveness of regen. The ability you pick is called the rune, the slot you put it in is the socket.

I had that survey and probably screwed their results since I'm not able to use relics and was saying I didn't care about them, don't use them, don't understand them and leaving loads blank.

Hearing sockets first time. I just learnt a week back or so what “alloys” are. Relics are just an unnecessary feature nobody asked for unfortunately
