Corvus smokes him and earns three charges off of him alone in war, so I would not recommend him for AW. He's good in BGs though

He’s a bad defender now tbh to many cheese options these days

If you mean specifically for bg's then yes he can still be a good defender, you just have to be more specific about when you place him more than some other defenders.

I rarely get to use my imiw on defense because literally everybody has a hulkling and galan in their deck

Something to note is the only time you should use IMIW on defense is if he is awakened. He has been in the game long enough where you can catch noobs off guard with him, but skilled players know how to fight him really well. The hard part about him is his awakened ability where he can autoblock at 15%. This means if the other person doesn't have a counter to that last 15% or isn't paying attention, they could take an autoblock to the face triggering parry which can lose them points or even the whole match.

It's also very annoying if IMIW is closish to 3 bars of power and you accidentally hit him to 15% so he just waits for that power gain to push him to 3 bars of power.

Honestly on AW he is an average defender. Most people have at least one counter in their team with the cosmic class being favoured off late.

In battlegrounds he is still a good defender because even with a counter, most people hang back and choose their moments to attack. His animations make it difficult to be aggressive against him. As a result, you can win by wasting opponent's time.

Kinda hard to do when I have to ban torch and archangel almost every time while also constantly fighting people with multiple rank 5s who have to be banned

You dont need to ban torch or aa, do you really have that many torch or archangel-able defenders that you need to ban them both constantly? If not then stop banning them, they dont take all fights fast and there are alot of fights that they cant do.

Galan takes almost any fight quickly and with high health and so does hulkling and hulking is also one of the best defenders. I mainly ban those 2 plus herc just because i have a r4 peni, so if you have any strong defenders centering your bans around them is a good strategy if you can do it without it hurting you in any way.

In my own deck i only have 3 torch-able defenders, and 4 archangle-able defenders, if they have torch ill just avoid drafting any of those 3 and if i do draft them and they have torch i'll either not place them or bait out torch if i have to, same with aa.

Sometimes you gotta play the round 3 game
