Is act 8.4 or act 9 going to implement a 5* ban?

Don't know and won't know until we get there. I highly doubt 8.4 would though

I could see it but I don't know how necessary it would be.

At rate the game is progressing now by the time you get to Act 8 you probably aren't using many 5 stars anyway, unless you're speed running or it's a really good champ like Doom, Kitty or Herc that you don't have as a 6 star. Or I guess if you need a very specific counter and only have it as a 5 star. I used a 5 star KP on my 600k alt account for Bahamut just because I don't have the best 6 star skills.

The biggest impact such a shift would have would be with synergies more than with champs used to fight. With each chapter there’s usually a path I’ll bring 2 White Mags for so I have his prefights for each fight on the path. Otherwise I definitely agree with your point. By the time anyone is making it to Act 9 they probably aren’t using 5* for anything anyway.

They said back when they started act 7 and gave 6*s boosts they don't want to ban champ rarities again. So don't worry

No they won’t.
Instead of doing this, since the players didn’t like the idea of banning a rarity from content (Act6), Kabam instead chose to give higher rarities a bonus.
Anyway most of the people won’t use 5*s at 8.4 and even more at Act9, other than synergy purposes.

5*s have been heavily out damaged by 6* r5s and 7*s
It's almost like using a 4*r5 champion when you can use a 6*r3 champion. As far as their synergy use is concerned. I don't think it will make any impact on how players tackle content since nowadays most avg players bring 3-4 counters for the path so they don't have much space to get synergy members anyways and it's only gonna get worse with time
