    Are you talking about the little badge to the left of the alliance tag? That is their alliance's previous season's war rewards tier indicator. That person's alliance finished in the Gold 3 AW rewards tier.

    Look at the badge below I’ve never seen that

    They are both Gold 3. There are 2 types of badges in use for some reason. Here are a couple of Bronze 3 badges in both styles. The style must have changed at some point.

    For the account in reference at top, that alliance page info says SEASON 2 (GOLD 3)

    It's a dormant alliance, couple active ppl still in it, but mostly others not logged in for LONG TIME.
    So haven’t been doing wars since Season 2, when as said above, icons looked different.
