Well, with matchmaking and that, he could reach it if he’s good at fighting and gets out with people who’re his level.

Probably swapped out their deck to play some friendlies and forgot to switch it back

Probably tanking for the match completion objectives so the winning objective is easier

Probably changed his deck to clear the BG dust objectives faster. (The ones that require just to do a fight, not win it.)

Swapped their deck out. Most likely just doing the cap milestones for the completion objectives. Using the 2 stars make the completion fights go super quick and stay in easier bracket for the win matches objective. Probably saves a ton of time rather than grinding out every fight.
