Advice on avoiding/dodging Knulls SP1

I'm trying to push Knull to using his SP2 instead, but he usually goes for SP1 as fast as he can. Is there any trick to avoiding this?

And if it can't be avoided, is there any trick to dodging his SP1 when used? It can't be blocked and it seemingly can't be dodged by dashing backwards, at least not on my attempts.

One trick I often use when fighting him is playing defensively when he's at 1 bar of power, just keep blocking and let him hit into your block. When he tries to throw a heavy dash back and punish it, then block again right after your combo, repeat that until he's at 2 bars. Then bait the SP2 and repeat

It gives some chip damage, but if you got Willpower you'll be healing from the debuffs anyway

Not a foolproof method but it works if needed

Generally a good method to push to the SP2 is to avoid ending your combos with the 2nd Medium or 4th light and instead go for M L L L and then hold block. USUALLY they won't throw a special into your block

If this is for the Steve quest, get the leech prefight and just throw a sp1 then dash back repeatedly to drain his power.
