So I just got kicked from my ally right before banquet, because I missed an AQ. I’ve been looking for a new alliance but really struggling. I can only find low tier of empty alliances. Is there a way to search for alliances by rank?

Wrong.

You would just need to delay doing your banquet stuff until AFTER you have been in new alliance for 14 days.
You can still participate for rewards after that.

a. The recruitment section of forum is a decent way to find an alliance best suitable.
b. You will get rewards, but you would have to contribute to milestones after 14 days if being in alliance, hence hold on to the crystals & units
