The last aw just ended so I was trying to join for the next but I can't place my defenders, I really need to join for season rewards please help. I have already waited till the old war was over so I should be able to play now right?

I am worried that seeing as I can't place defenders I might not be able to attack in war and I really need the rank up mats season rewards

If you waited until the previous war was over, you can't place defenders. You have to place defenders before the war starts, and the war technically starts when the previous one ends and match making begins.

However, even if you have not placed defenders, you should be able to join the attack phase of the war when it begins. At least, that is how it has always worked in the past. I haven't checked this recently, but in the past it has always been possible to join a war without placing defenders, like if someone forgot to do so. I don't know if the change to persistent placement altered this, but I don't see why it would have.

Wait but I couldn't place before either? Is it because I just joined?

You might just have to wait for a full war or 2 before the system starts to allow you to place your defenders after changing Ally’s.

As DNA said, you might be able to still join on Attack earlier (without defense). But that too sometimes depends on status of former ally (ie, kicked or left) people's defenders, whether they are still stuck in there and counting towards thinking there are already 30 ppl there.

Not a good idea anymore, ever since persistent placement, to leave it until 5 wars left before moving alliances.

What *should* happen, and what *is* happening are not the same.
As has been mentioned by lots and lots of people up here for many seasons since persistent defense system started.
