Rewards and game progression

I’ve been playing this for a good few years recreationally but not ftp (I buy the monthly sigil) but I am cav and just started on 6.2 (I know, most of you have probably aced that already by now but I get caught up in other content)
3 weeks ago, my son asked me to essentially “take over’ his account by helping him play through to higher levels and in that time, I have levelled him from (summoner lvl) 28 to 39, and hit Proven and Conquerer (ftp), 100% act 3, finished off most of act 2 and now over 50% act 4.
I’ve noticed that the rewards his account gets, whether it’s crystals, calendars or otherwise, seems to be much better than what I get at my lvl 60 Cav account.
Relevant or decent rewards seem to be few and far between at the moment meaning I’m struggling to rank champs I need to get further along. Gold, credits etc are dwindling.
Obviously, the story part has slowed right down for me so I’m not getting those rewards as easily as his account is.
