Play the fight out another minute, your opponent is on track to finish the fight with much more health than you. If that happened, who would you say deserves the win?

You may have finished your fight in the time allotted, but the goal isn't necessarily to KO your opponent in two minutes. The goal is to score as many points as possible within the parameters set up. Remaining health is a significant part of the score

So, if you killed the Defender with 1 second to spare - but ended at 1% health,
And your Opponent left the Defender with 1hp - but ended at 100% health...

Would you still feel the same? The other fight would be about 100 times better in that scenario, yet the worst fight ended with a KO.

HP / Defender Health / Time are three separate point totals.
