War System Current Map Tagged?

So help me out here ...I don't know if this was changed but the current map your alliance is being matched for has always said "Current" on it and more over when you go to place defenders, it will place you on that current map for you to place. So can your map change during matchmaking?

Because that's what just happened. We made sure that defenders were placed on the "current" map and yet we were matched using the higher map despite not having gone up a tier as far as matchmaking is concerned.

Ok fine no worries .. how exactly does it work now? Should we pay no attention to this "Current" map tag? Because even now while the war is active on the higher map, it is still showing our current map should be the map where we actually placed all defenders.

Yes.
Your “Current” map, based on your WR % bracket Tier placing, is all that the game knows PRIOR to actually Matching for the next war.

(And you have to have your Defenders in place PRIOR to when Matching 4-hr phase begins).

Now, as Matching happens, sometimes teams that are very close to the boundary between 2 Difficulty Tiers will get matched against each other.
They have very close WR, just that one team's “Current” Tier Map is different than the other team's “Current” is.

In this case, game flips a coin to see WHICH MAP (nodes, buffs, etc) both teams will play on.
*Note, you still only get your Multiplier based on your “Current” Tier Multiplier (after winner/loser has already been determined) for season points, not necessarily the Tier of what the war ended up being played on.

This is why game has allowed teams to set Defenders in potential +/- Up/Down Tier Maps, in addition to “Current” Tier Map.
*Note, although a recent AW Setup option has been added for “Auto-Placement” (if you want to use that) which you only setup defense in one “current” map, and if you play on a +/- Map it will automatically use those same defenders on the SAME NODES for that other map you end up playing on. (or even, moving Up/Down to because of +/- WR changes during season).
