Curious as to how Placement in GC works when you have the same points as other people.

I reached 158 points and when I looked on the leaderboard I was at the top of the people who had 158
Then I looked again only 4 minutes later and somehow I had dropped 60 placement to the bottom of 158
And then scrolling back up I saw the people who were below me are now above me even though they haven't changed points. In this example you can see I was above dashbadhorse and tb12isdagoatjr and then when I am pushed down to the bottom they get to remain at the top. So I am just curious as to how the system works
