Isophyne Sneaky Good BG Defender??

Shouldn't she be a punching bag on defense? But she's 5-0 this season, and I have no clue what's happening. Isophyne god-tier defender, lol?

I mean she is kinda new and I’ve never played against played her so if you threw her on defense I would have no idea what her specials are or how to counter her lol.

Deadpool inflicts a lot less debuffs natively to keep up the reduced damage from decay tactic, so he sucks against non tactic defenders. Sam obviously isn't immune to incenerate Or poison, and not tactic, so he'll die even to a iron Fist.

I did practice just now fighting her just to see, and it seems like they gave her the Blade playbook. She literally just stands holding block until you do something. You can't bait her to do anything.

Can you explain what you mean by "non tactic defenders"? Don't both sugar pill and hazard shift apply to all defenders in this BG season? I'm genuinely confused (and likely missing something).

Hazard Shift does apply to all defenders this season, but Sugar Pill only applies to defenders with the Sugar Pill tag

Tactic defenders place Placebo buffs on the attacker. Decay attackers are immune to Placebo buffs, and whenever a Buff immunity triggers they place a Wither debuff on the opponent. These Wither debuffs allow all Decay attackers to mitigate the damage from Hazard Shift, but they can only place these debuffs if their Placebo Buff Immunity triggers, which can only happen if the defender has the Sugar Pill tag. Decay attackers can still reduce the damage from Hazard Shift when facing a non-tactic defender if they place a lot of personal debuffs on the opponent, but DPX doesn’t do that very well

Thanks, that makes sense, but shouldn't the BG node specify that Sugar Pill applies only to Sugar Pill tagged defenders, the way #Decay is laid out for attackers?

It doesn’t apply to all defenders. I played many games against defenders without the Sugar Pill tag and I never got any Placebo buffs

If a defender is not sugarpill you are cooked without decay with plenty debuffs or an actual hazard counter

Ok, thanks. I also don't remember getting placebo buffs against all defenders, but the way the BG node is written is sloppy imo.

There is an example in my top post above.
Obviously she took hazard damage that fight so score was in the 40ks instead of 50k, so just depends on the depth of your roster and the trade-offs. But yeah, I agree, not ideal. I would leave her out of my deck too if I had 30 better options.

By the way, I think I understood this and was mostly confused about the lack of the sugar pill tag in the node, but the way you lay it all out is super clear and concise. You wouldn't happen to be a lawyer by chance?

Ahh alright, she did fine.
You probably wouldn't be able to hold that health if that was my 6* redskull. 2 reasons:
3/3 despair
3/3 inequity.

I have r3 redskull tho. Which Im not drafting much. Cosmics like medusa and scream are cooking him.

But, Congrats on the isophene dubs. atleast someone is getting a use out of her.

So just thinking about this some more (which is a win for me by itself, since I usually don't think).
We want #Decay attackers against #Sugar Pill defenders.
We want debuff-heavy #Decay attackers against non-#Sugar Pill defenders.
Otherwise we want non-#Decay but Poison/Incinerate Immune attackers against any defenders, except that against #Sugar Pill defenders, watch out for unstoppables, and against Mystic #Sugar Pill defenders running MD, we might be running into a lot of power gain?

It is a bit complicated... Even when Im unable to draft all three decay attackers. I'm drafting immune attackers. Trying to finish fights with high health and leave the rest on rng gods.

Yes, definitely. I just wrote that as a basic overview of the dynamics at play. How we apply it to our deck management and then draft selection is where the fun starts, or pain I guess, depending on your perspective.
