Crashed mentioned earlier in the week (or was it last week? 🤔Time is a construct...anyways) that it was being swapped out this year in place of other events as it had gotten a little stale. The rewards that would have been available through it are still going to be available though, just in different events instead!

although the shards and rank up mats was like 8-9 years late, we can get a solid amount of units from Lunar New Year event. So kinda sad we didn't have it this year

You can choose to support because you want to spread the celebration and you really don't need a reason for it, the idea of culture is to be shared to multiple backgrounds and to learn about it.

TL;DR
You don't need a reason to celebrate something that means more to others than it does to you, culture is built to be shared ignoring background
