Sure, perma boot someone from the game and forums for a bad comment, but tracking down their family? That’s some pretty shaky territory, especially if you get it wrong.

Actions have consequences.

Since the advent of the internet people can talk **** from thousands of miles away with almost no consequence, almost because annoying someone enough to actively identify you can be troublesome in other ways.

As far as I recall, Miike didn't reach out, just dangled enough info to make the guy nervous.

I’m not defending the neo n*** behaviour at all, what I also won’t do is condone extracting someone’s family contact details to approach them personally.

Your also acting like miike did it anytime he wanted to. He did it once and only once and I this case it was the absolute correct decision. You also seem to forget kabam is a Canadian company. They are allowed to do things other places can't.

I have a question. Do we as a user give permission to track and use our location and contact data for any outer game purposes? What is the legality of miike contacting that person's school or parents about this behavior? It is one thing if Miike contacted law enforcement agencies or police about this, it's another thing to contact their parents about their child's behavior on Instagram. And it is an even bad idea to publicly announce it on forums. Assuming he actually did and it's not just a joke.

I agree that person is a inhuman neo n@zi pos who thinks it's cool to be racist and making fun of oppressed people. But the best we can do is to ban from the game, or inform it to a law agency. Informing it to parents is not something kabam has legal right to do. Unless Canadian law supports that.

I don't think any info was "tracked" in the digital data spying sense.. just that the kid used his school email which makes it easy to find the school and kid who has that email. We give permission to use the email .

I know we give permission to use our email, but we only give it as a login credential for our account, and they are only authorized to use the mail for game related communications. Even if it's the school id that kid had given, they still don't have permission to contact the school about it, I think so.

A person does not need permission to contact another person. That does not break any laws. There can be rules within a system or hierarchy on who can contact whom, but not outside of it.

Under certain contexts, that can be harrasement depending on what Miike does. And that is important . If it was a stalker who contacted the school to tell lies , that can be harrasement. But in this case, he hasn't done anything wrong.

Exactly, and here’s another thing: when you make a Kabam account there is no email authentication process required.

Kabam doesn’t even check whether such an email address exists at all.

I setup my namesake email after the fact, but the email address itself didn’t actually exist for a good few months into me playing.

Which brings us to another issue: how would Miike know someone is using their own email at all without an authentication process?

Don’t be playing detectives if you are not authorized or equipped to do so, leave that stuff to the people whose job it is.

You are playing detective without being equipped to do so by assuming you have all the relevant information that Miike used to identify the user. You do not.

Further, I can confidently say that there are no legal or contractual issues with Miike’s actions. If he had gone off half-cocked and had been wrong, then yes, there could be repercussions if he had published incorrect information about a private party. But seeing it appears he was not wrong, then he’s in the clear.

Morally, Miike is on even stronger ground. You should never post anything on the internet that you wouldn’t attach your name and face to, because someday somebody might figure out who you are and do that for you. Plus, any action that results in the naming and shaming of hate-spewing idiots like the one in question is good and we should do more of it, actually. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
