Kabam’s biggest deficiency for the average player

I’ve been in a P3/ top 250 alliance for several years, playing regularly for 9 years. I’m not the greatest/most skilled player, but I’ve spent quite a bit of time playing this game, so I feel like I have a decent grasp of why the average player may feel burnout with this game.

Most of the prevalent voices that influence change in MCOC are the highest level players, the ones with YouTube channels and deep wallets. They are absolutely invaluable to the MCOC economy and community, however I think that by focusing solely on their grievances, Kabam has lost some insight into the average player experience - the ones who can’t complete endgame content itemless, the people with full time jobs that play the game daily as a de-stressor (sorry if I’m getting preachy).

What’s missing now that wasn’t a few years ago? A lack of 2-5 revive content. To be clear, when I say this, I’m not referring to the endgame content that’s being released… some ridiculous event like Summer of Sodomy where 200 of the best players in the world flex about how it can be completed itemless. This is NOT 2-5 revive content for the average player. I completed one path in Epoch of Pain and it was miserable. Congrats to the GOATS of this game for soloing Ares, but that wasn’t my experience.

Drop the egos about creating impossible content to appease a small percentage of players and make content that is engaging to your broader base.

Release content that players outside of a Masters level alliance can relate to and ignore any criticism from the people who dedicate their lives to this game that say “this was too easy”. It’s supposed to be easy for them… they play 6 hours a day.

Currently, I’ve been selling revives (which hurts). This isn’t because I’ve finished every form of endgame content that’s currently available, it’s because I don’t want to deal with some masochistic content that makes me feel inadequate on a game I play as a stress reliever.

Maybe this doesn’t strike a chord with anyone else and I’m just being whiny, but damn… I just want some content that’s mildly challenging but still enjoyable, and there hasn’t been any for quite some time.

it comes down to the economy of the game. units are easier to farm which means less real world money for kabam. Hence the need for difficulty that will expend units making you spend periodically because you cannot save up all your units for cyber weekend or spring cleaning.

Then the reward shouldn’t be something crazy and there nothing against reviving though it if that’s what it takes would you even do it if the quest only gav mat for 6 stars thing that’s not going to help you and u probably wouldn’t even do it then since if you didn’t notice there’s balance rewards for a reason. What do you hav against using reviews that’s what there for

How are units easier to farm?

Arena milestones haven’t changed in years. Meanwhile avg champ PI (which translates to points) has probably quadrupled.

It’s be nice if they had a lane that took you straight to ares so you could actually try and get better at him. Bit like the old gauntlets did, you could do a completion with one lane and straight to boss.

Completely agreed. All the big new quests just seem to be "Winter of Woe" and "Necropolis"-style stuff. I gave up the "Winter of Woe" quests before the last one, not only because of the revives, but because of the absolute frustration in needing to study videos and practice for hours before the fights could be done at all. And Necropolis was also a frustrating nightmare. I did one path when it came out and had to open a ton of free crystals to get revives to do it. And doing the half-path for the recent She-Hulk piece was just as difficult and annoying.

Like you, I'm now at the point where there's no recent quest where I can burn off the revives I get on a daily basis. I am actually going back to do old quests this month, looking for quests which aren't going to take dozens of revives, but will at least take a handful of them. I did a path of Labyrinth of Legends, which I never did before. I fought all paths of the Act 7 Kang and Gwenmaster bosses, because I've never fully explored Act 7. And now I'm past the halfway point in Legendary Crucible, because last year I perhaps foolishly only did the Normal difficulty.

But the big problem with all these older quests are that the rewards are extremely weak, if not completely useless. As you said, we're missing those nicely tuned quests with modern rewards that are not so difficult that they'll require an hour of research just to learn how to do one fight, and will still cost you dozens of revives to finish a path.

My summary from this is that you’d like more shooting stars content? Which I semi agree with.

Act 8 and 9 were fine too. Also, the Carina Challenge to do Act 7 with 7-stars was one of the few reasonable Carina Challenges. And the Crucible to do Act 7 bosses wasn't too bad, but did have some strain if your roster wasn't deep. It also would be nice if it had a failsafe in there where you could switch out your champ if you accidentally pick a bad one for the fight (they both would then stay out of your deck).

Arena milestones haven’t changed in years. Meanwhile avg champ PI (which translates to points) has probably quadrupled.

Nothing has changed in many years. It's been easy for many years to get into infinite streak in arena. Any endgame player has had rosters for many years that could win infinite streak matches without dying. 6-star R1s get it started, and then you need a small deck of strong champs to trigger the streak. Then just average champs to keep it going. The only thing that was different for me a few years ago was not having enough champs to play the arena to the end without stopping and letting them refresh. But it was still possible to complete after taking that pause.

Congrats to an on point synopsis of the problems. Only a hand full of players can do this content with minimal items.
Someone else said those rewards will be stale in 6 to 12 months. Like you we are top p4 wars okay skill level not great by any means.
In my opinion there is NOTHING fun about spend 40+ revives to finish content that's why I don't do it.
I think that's what seatins comments resonates with the community it's really not fun to do that.
Again another of seatins comments for average skill is the reliance of certain champs, whales can do this with there huge spends. Game design should be far more champ inclusive.
Another comment I 100% agree with people saying it was too easy, on rare occasions you get superstars like msd , but I reckon most say it was easy in the same breath as dropping a couple of hundred dollars on the quest. The game needs to accommodate ALL players not the 1%
