Why I am finally quitting after 8 .5 years of playing

I want to talk about why I am quitting the game and I also want to know if anyone feels the same or similar?

I began playing this game before I even met my wife and had kids. I now have a family. I remember playing when I was in my previous relationship and people would notice I was playing a game a lot. It was embarrassing because I just wanted to leave and play. I would play everywhere. I would take breaks while driving uber and play. I would play anytime I had free time. I began spending money on the game. I have probably spent more than 8000 dollars since 2016. I don't know if there is a way to actually find out but to be honest I am embarrassed to even know. If my wife knew this we will argue for sure. It's one of those secrets that I have and no one else even knows. Not even my best friends. It's just so embarrassing trying to justify this to someone who doesn't play MCOC and has gotten into it like me and many others in this community.

I have 6 million hero rating, 26.4k prestige, 14 rank 3 7 stars, I got the main annoying and awesome characters like onslaught, bullseye, serpent, titania, Shang-chi, hulk, domino, pens, ebony, etc. I haven't playing in 2 months and have literally no desire to progress anymore.

These are my reasons. I am tired of always waiting for KABAM to make the changes we as players always want. I know this is not always going to happen but I feel we are constantly fighting and they kind of respond but not really. Then they make changes and we feel, meh, okay not bad. Then we go through this time where we play because we have fun and we are just playing through all the BS even though there are constant problems in the game. We all know what is happening with the boycott and the response from kabam with Dev. If you know you know.

The only way that I will return, but I know 100% this is not happening, is if KABAM refunded us a good chunk of money from what we have spent. The reason I say this is because there has been so many times that they release a champion, we then spend on events trying to pull the champion and get resources in order to rank up and sig up. Then they make changes without even asking us and then the money we spent is a huge waste because our intention was different. Isn't that a scam? How would you feel if you bought a ps5 pro, then some games, the Sony decides to make the system slower and then make some changes in the way the games are played? I would probably be mad and want my money back. Well that doesn't happen with Kabam.

How many rewards from different parts of the game are outdated and are actually a joke? Monthly event quest for example. These rewards should get updated every 3-4 months. By now they should give at least a few generic sigs for 7 stars, a full 7 star, and some titan shards. Then no one would say that playing the monthly is a waste. I know Dev said that if everything gets updated like this then players would feel they have to do everything. Not true. Look at the way it is now. When I played, I only played BG and that's it. Maybe the side quest but those are confusing and underwhelming all the time. I didn't feel I have to play everything.

Look what is happening now, they are finally gonna make some changes because of the boycott, but are they going to compensate us for more than 20 months of outdated BG rewards? NO. So if they make changes now, they can be cool, but we got screwed for so long already. We would still be behind when it comes to getting the stuff we deserve for our time. Then they want us to spend on the 4th of july event coming soon. Then people get excited and forget about all the BS and then we continue the whole cycle again. Dude I am tired of this ****.

This is just crazy and I am so, so exhausted with the constant back and forth from the community and constant less-than-satisfactory responses.

I know people like Legacy want good changes to happen because he needs MCOC for his YouTube channel since that is his job.

I don't depend on MCOC. Peace out.

As a spender in this game, you're not purchasing anything. You're leasing permission for access to whatever it is they're selling. The game and the contents therein belong to Kabam and Netmarble, respectively.
What you're leasing is what they're advertising, Champs, Resources, etc. We're not purchasing shares in the company, nor are we buying something that provides any lasting return. If the game folded tomorrow, we would still be out our money.
What we deserve is whatever we bought, and we get that when we purchase it. It's not for keeps, so there's no real deserving anything.

Yes, because those are policies those companies put in place. You are also taking ownership of those items. You don't own your account in MCOC. You're essentially renting it until the game stops or you quit. When you purchase something in game, you're doing it to advance easier or faster but you don't get to keep those items forever and they aren't yours.

You can buy cars that don't have warranty as well. But my point isn't that there's a warranty or there are returns. My point is that you can't demand those places do something you want them to do simply because you spent money.

Technically, people can decide they deserve whatever they choose. It is perfectly reasonable to have the expectation that when they spend money, they expect a specific deterministic and unchanging thing for that money.

However, they will never get that in any game as a service, so if that's what they want, they need to look elsewhere for their entertainment. Giving feedback is fine, but if your feedback is "I deserve to get what I expect from my money without you ever changing it" that feedback is going nowhere. That's simply not a thing the developers have any practical ability to deliver. That feedback simply tells them you're not part of the target audience for the game.

I agree. I can also relate to the feeling of investing into something I don't feel deserves my money. My feelings are on the latter paragraph. That only goes so far into claims of what I'm owed.

I like this, I mean when I started spending on the game back in 2016, spending on games like this was new to me. I was used to buying actual games.

I guess I have learned that spending on games like this is only giving you the fun and entertainment for that particular time when you did it.

I will definitely not spend thousands of dollars on any other mobile game like this. I will be waiting for the PS6 and buying games then haha

Which is also fair. Your money, your decision. I've spent thousands on this game, but it's also over 9 and a half years or so. Microtransactions add up. I game mostly on my PC now outside of this game. It's cheaper to buy, or emulate when it comes to older or vintage games. Quite honestly, we've been playing some SNES games lately, although we've been playing Tears of the Kingdom for the last decade it feels like. Hahaha

Unfortunately, like I have said many times on rhis forum like a broken, we will most likely be here again... And again... And I again. I'm very cautiously optimistic for lasting change, but you already know the best predictor of future behavior is......??

We have to think about live service games like streaming.
Paying monthly for Game Pass or for Netflix means you get access, not ownership.
The catalogue changes, and the directions changes. The cost can increase as well, so you might not feel it is worth it anymore.

You can decide not to pay anymore if it is no longer worth it. But the money you already spent went to access and entertainment, not ownership.

The thing to keep in mind about live service games, and MCOC in particular, is that the game literally gives everything away for free. Players get crystals for free, they get rank up materials for free, virtually everything in the game has an opportunity to get it for no monetary expense. You just play the game, and you get everything for free. If a player gets a champion crystal for free and you spend money and get a champion crystal, what are you actually buying? You're not buying that crystal, you're paying to get that crystal sooner. You're paying to cut in line.

Money buys time, not things. When they nerf or buff a champ, they are not changing something someone bought. They are changing that champ in the game, and some people got that champ for free and some people paid to get that champ sooner than the people who got it for free, but neither group is entitled to decide whether the champ changes or stays the same.

If you don't understand you're paying for time, your paying for convenience, but you aren't buying actual material things, in my opinion that's something people should learn and understand. And it is not up to the spender to decide what they are buying. Sellers decide what's for sale. Buyers decide what they buy. Buyers don't get to demand sellers sell what they expect to buy. Kabam does not sell things, they don't sell ownership rights, and that's their sole decision to make.

Yea I totally disagree with this one.

Let's say when Hercules was announced, obviously people were excited to get him. Then people paid a lot of money to pull him and dupe him. They paid money because of what he could do and they wanted that advantage in the game to complete content.

If Kabam then changed him where he didn't have immortality and the potential yellow numbers, I think people would be upset. Again, Kabam is here to make money and a customer is 100% in the right to complain and give feedback because then people will stop buying stuff and that is not good for Kabam.

I think we are going around in circles here, but one of the main points is that customer can DEFINITELY complain after spending money. KABAM WILL make changes, maybe not as fast or as much as we want, but they will. Why? They want to keep people spending money.

You can complain all you want, but some stuff is non-negotiable. They aren't going to stop changing things in the game, and they aren't going to refund customers after they change stuff in the game just for changing them. You aren't entitled to ownership rights, and while they do need customers they want customers who are willing to buy what they are selling. There's no amount of complaint that will cause them to abandon their entire business model. If a live service game finds customers who understand and are willing to spend in a live service game environment, they succeed. If they don't they fail. None of them decide to stop being live service games.

This is not me saying you shouldn't demand these kinds of things. This is me saying those complaints will go nowhere. Best case scenario, nothing happens. Worst case scenario, you drown out potentially actionable complaints with doomed ones. But it is not like I'm worried Kabam might actually listen to them, anymore than I would feel worried about players demanding Kabam add more DC heroes to the game.
