AW champs - Lock out on other content?

Apologies, I'm a bit confused.

I remember back when AW change to 2 Attack days, Kabam mentioned something along the line that your AW champs is not locked out for other content.

I am trying to take a champ into AQ and it said that this champ is in AW (Def) so not available.

Did I missed something?

Yes you can’t use war for aq but you can use your champs defence and attack anywhere else in quests,and stuff. Just not ally event aq.
