Is a third damage “type” on the table in the near future?

The current duopoly of physical and energy damage has been around for years and years now, all sorts of interactions both rewarding and punishing both of these types of damage have been explored in almost every way imaginable.
Understanding the intricacies of how these two damage types work and interact with one another is one of the most important parts of the game, but it feels like it’s getting a little… stale… perhaps unimaginative.
I mean throughout the history of the game the hardest defenders have derived a lot of difficulty from having high damage resistances, be that armour, physical or energy resistance. Now with the growing prevalence of critical resistance combined with these aspects it feels like the “arms race” in champion development is nearing a point where a champion has high resistances and can’t be crit against (Gentle has introduced the reinforce buff, just wait for that to reach a defender soon).
The natural counter to that would be a third damage type, right? I wonder what they’ll do with it, I mean “psychic” damage has already been used over and over, if they wanted to make that a third damage type it would involve changing dozens of champions. Maybe it would have to be champ by champ, it would make sense for a powerful mystic or an incomprehensible cosmic (like a celestial maybe…) to be able to do damage surpassing the energy or physical paradigm.
I’m sure people who read more comics have ideas on this, on unique characters with funky ways of dealing damage, I’m more so looking for answers here, is this on the radar? Or are we going to have to keep going along with this constant progression of higher resistances, more crits, more vulnerability debuffs, reinforce and whatever else comes next?
